Camping preparations are now underway. Here is a photo of our chef, Pius, on the left and the camp operator, Bernard, on the right
We were meeting to discuss menus and what we will need in camp on a daily basis. Ice! Ice! Ice! End of chat.... but, if there are dietary needs now is the time to mention them as Pius will cook most of the main meals and freeze them in advance. You can expect breakfast, lunch and dinner with beer, spirits and soft drinks. If you are a wine lover (like me) then could the overseas visitors please bring some in their suitcases as the wine in Kenya is ridiculously expensive and not very good quality. Again, if there are other particular needs or allergies then please flag them now so we can provide what is wanted.
Accommodation-wise there will be x5 main tents for the team, so we will be sharing. Each tent will have x2 single beds, mattresses, bedding and towels provided and there will be bush loos and showers behind the tents.
We will also have a main mess tent, where we will eat meals and relax during the day / evening as well as providing shelter for the pre-Charge mapping exercise. There will be a kitchen tent, a vehicle preparation tent and accommodation for the camp staff as well.

All of the equipment needs to get from Nairobi to site on the back of a lorry. Previous years we used to put the Falcon on the back as well but nowadays we drive her in to give her a good pre-charge test drive. We managed to break and fix numerous parts last year (water pump, trailing arm etc) so it is a good plan.
The camp crew will leave Nairobi on Tuesday 29th to be at the gate when it opens at 8am on Wednesday morning. They need to find a good camping location and you know what they say, the early bird catches the worm. A previous team-mate, Ian Cox, has agreed to run the camp for us this year which is great news. That is Team Falcon dedication for you!
Most of the rest of the team will come in on Wednesday and a car is likely coming in on Thursday as well so there will be plenty of spare seats for fresh fruit and vegetables, forgotten items and late arrivals.
